An adapted, more precise plan. Maastricht deserves it
After the criticism of our 2021 ‘Above the Track’ plan, we started working on the responses. It took us a while, but the necessity gave us new motivation. Because we want to give that enormous, unused space back to Maastricht: to the city that needs space and that therefore has to solve the rail barrier. The tunnel is therefore shorter in our adjusted ‘Around the Tracks’ plan. We have given as much space as possible to the existing. For example, the Scharnerweg tunnel and the Colonel’s parking garage. We have placed more emphasis on creating even more space for homes, educational locations and offices. All this makes the plan more financially feasible, especially if you look not only at the costs but also at the benefits for the city’s residents and the travelers who benefit from the new station. We think it can be an example for other comparable European cities that struggle with a historically developed rail delta. We look forward to your response and discussions.

In this version too, they bring the train underground and thus ensure that the city regains 10 hectares of valuable space. Because the space used by the railway in the city is ‘unjustifiable’. More…
